Cornwall’s only city with one of the UK’s best fish and chip shops | Travel News | Travel

Truro might be one of the smallest cities in the UK, but it boasts a lively high street and an award-winning fish and chip shop.

Often compared to Bath, a population of just 20,000 people adds to the quaint charm as tourists flock to explore the West Country haven.

The cobbled high street is home to well-known brands like  Primark, TK Maxx and surfwear company Saltrock.

Independent boutiques and small businesses thrive among the national competition as they sell homemade crafts, artwork and sustainably sourced coffee.

Truro Cathedral attracts attention as a Victorian Gothic Revival design which took over 30 years to be built.

The historic building stands out as home to some of the finest Victorian stained glass in the world and is one of only three cathedrals in the UK to have three spires. Over 70,000 tourists flock to visit every year.

It’s not the only landmark to leave visitors amazed. The 15ft-high drummer sculpture in Lemon Quay was unveiled by Queen’s Roger Taylor.

The music legend grew up in the city and formed his first band aged just seven before going on to attend Truro School.

While the Cornish pasty is often considered the county’s signature dish, it’s not the only food they’ve mastered.

Kellaway’s Fish and Chips won third place in the prestigious National Fish and Chip Awards this year.

The family-owned takeaway offers a medium portion of chips at £3.80 and a medium cod at £9.50. The menu includes everything from flaming hot sausages, chicken strips and breaded mushrooms.

Founded in 1997, Kellaway’s has already been shortlisted in the top ten for next year’s awards.

Nearby seaside village Feock is just a ten minute drive away and has also gained admiration for its Cornish charm.
