A film hailed by some enthusiasts as ‘one of the funniest comedies in the last 15 years’ has finally landed on streaming platforms.

The movie, dubbed Friendship, is now part of the roster for those subscribed to Sky Cinema or holding a movies pass with NOW, the broadcaster’s alternative streaming platform.

Esteemed studio A24 secured the rights to distribute the film, but UK fans have been eagerly awaiting its arrival.

Despite only enjoying a brief stint in cinemas, US audiences have had the option to purchase or rent the title online. However, its debut on Sky and NOW marks its first appearance on UK streaming platforms.

The film’s succinct synopsis reveals little, merely hinting that the plot revolves around suburban dad Craig Waterman. He’s an introverted character who strikes up an unlikely friendship with his new neighbour, Austin Carmichael.

As their bond deepens, so does Craig’s fixation with Austin, threatening to unravel both their lives, reports the Mirror.

The cast is headlined by comedian and Netflix star Tim Robinson, who portrays Craig, while Ant-Man actor Paul Rudd assumes the role of his neighbour Austin. Kate Mara from House of Cards also features as Craig’s wife.

Friendship is the brainchild of Andrew DeYoung, marking his directorial debut in feature films. The filmmaker has previously contributed to shorts and TV shows including Our Flag Means Death, The Decameron and Miracle Workers, among others.

The film has garnered an impressive 88% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and has been well-received by a majority of viewers, despite some conceding it may not be to everyone’s taste.

One critic hailed the film as “a cringe comedy masterpiece.”
