Thise travelling in Boxing Day may be affected by cancellation and disruption.

Train stations and airports remain busy with large footfalls showing no signs of slowing with the final days of 2024, from 26 to 31 December, seeing millions on the move around Britain.

For those looking to board trains for their journey could be in for a disappointment as a number of services have been cancelled this Boxing Day.

These cancellations have affected a number of trains across the UK and in London too.

Some trains are still operating on a festive timetable which means there are no services on December 26 and a number of other services being cancelled.

The LNER service, which operates trains from London up to the east of England and into Scotland, is shut and will not reopen until Friday.

Avanti West Coast, which runs trains from London to Glasgow, are still operating on its festive timetable for 2024 which means there no services on December 26.

This festive timetable will also mean a number of other regional train services will remain closed including Great Northern, Thameslink and East Midlands Railway.

For southern parts of the UK, there will be a limited Southern service for some routes between Brighton and London Victoria.

In London, Kings Cross St. Pancras is only operating services to Continental Europe.

This means there are no trains operating from St. Pancras to Kent on Southeastern, the south coast or Bedford on the Thameslink and no service to Leicester and Sheffield on the East Midlands Railway.

The London Underground is running a normal service on Boxing Day with all stations open apart from the Elizabeth Line.

There is a limited service on the London Victoria-Gatwick Airport-Brighton with hourly services from 8.30am to 8.30pm.

The Tottenham Hale-Stansted Airport is operating but on a half-hourly service from 6.45am to 11.15pm.

Most rail routes will reopen on Friday 27 December with services likely to change again over New Year.

In Liverpool, Merseyrail will not be serving all stations with the operator explaining: “Additional services will be available between Liverpool and Aintree to support those attending the Boxing Day races”.

There are no trains running in Wales or Northern Ireland.
