Boris hilariously mocks Emily Maitlis’ Trump election night ‘breakdown’ | Politics | News

Boris Johnson has hilariously responded to Emily Maitlis’ reaction to Donald Trump’s election last week, after clashing with the former Newsnight host.

The former Prime Minister appeared on Channel 4’s election night coverage as the star guest, and was reportedly ‘fired’ mid-way through the show for plugging his new autobiography too much.

Ahead of a major interview tonight on GB News, a preview clip showed Mr Johnson responding to Ms Maitlis’ reaction to Mr Trump’s huge win.

He agreed with presenter Patrick Christys that she had appeared to a “breakdown”.

The top Tory, who is also set to be asked this evening about Ukraine and his record on immigration, added that the Channel 4 newsroom reaction had been like “elderly beldames who see a mouse running up their petticoats, and they shriek and they jump on the chairs and call for the smelling salts and sal volatile”.

The jibes sparked GB News presenter Martin Daubney, with Mr Christys promising there is “all that kind of stuff” to come from tonight’s 9pm interview.

Mr Johnson was a rare pro-Trump voice on Channel 4’s election night coverage, and around 11:30 Krishnan Guru-Murthy claimed the former Prime Minister had been “fired for banging on about his book too much”.

Mr Guru-Murthy later had to apologise to viewers after Ms Maitlis described some of Mr Trump’s election claims as “bats**t”.

Mr Johnson tore into Channel 4 on the night for its “massively skewed” attitude to the new President-elect.

He blasted: “Here’s Channel 4 news… sitting here doing the same old stunt that you tried in 2004 taking a massively skewed approach to a US election.”

Ms Maitlis later accused him of “importing that Trump-like behaviour into Britain when you were Prime Minister.”

“His disregard for institutions. His disregard for the rule of law”

“His denialism… Mirrored in your response to the Privileges Committee.. Your response to the Parliamentary Standards Committee.. Your Proroguing of Parliament”

“This is all Trump-like behaviour”

Mr Johnson hit back that he “disagrees profoundly”.
