Polling expert Martin Baxter issued a bombshell historic prediction on the night of the huge Gorton and Denton by-election.

In an interview with GB News, the founder of Electoral Calculus explained how his latest “poll-of-polls” national voter intention data showed how for the first time there was a percentage chance of a Green Party leader, in this case hard-left firebrand Zack Polanski, of becoming the Prime Minister of Great Britain.

Mr Baxter outlined how the two-party system the UK has experienced for over 150 years has come to a close, and now his polling indicates Parliament will be split in the next general election, and potentially elections after that, by up to five political parties all vying for control.

In such a scenario, the ability for political parties to form coalitions becomes crucial, over the strong single-party governments the UK has voted in throughout most of its democratic history.

He said of his latest poll: “Reform are ahead, if there was a general election they might take as much as three hundred seats. And of the other four parties they would all get around fifty, sixty, seventy seats. So there might have to be a Reform-Conservative coalition here.

“The thing that’s interesting is the Green Party is moving up. We think they might get 56 seats if there is a general election tomorrow.

“And for the first time ever in the history of these poll-of-polls there’s now a percentage chance of Zack Polanski, leader of the Green Party, being the next Prime Minister, leading the centre-left coalition with the Greens as the largest party on the centre-left.

“They could get as many as 107 seats and if Labour and the Lib Dems get less – but together they can get to 300 – then that’s just possible.”

He added: “The betting markets are saying there’s a two-to-three per cent chance Zack Polanski could be the next Prime Minister.”

Earlier on Thursday once the polls had closed, Mr Baxter made a prediction on how the by-election would play out.

“It’s a very interesting and slightly unusual seat up in Manchester there,” he said, and pointed out how it was Labour’s 38th-safest seat at the general election.

But, he added, “it’s looking like that is under threat.”

“Labour may well lose that seat tonight,” Mr Baxter continued. “We’ll have to see… That’s one big change, the other big change—and maybe we should have a minute of silence for this—for the death of the old model of British politics.

“Over the last 150 years, the dominant parties in this country have been Labour, the Conservatives and the Liberal Party.

“And it’s looking like tonight those parties combined will get less than 50 per cent of the vote.”
