A British man now living in Benidorm has captured the Alicante resort’s recent spell of “spooky” weather, which has been impacting holidays to the popular tourist destination.

Harry Poulton, who frequently posts travel advice about the Costa Blanca area on TikTok (via his @harrytokky account), highlighted the mist currently blanketing the region. It’s certainly not the sight holidaymakers want when they’ve paid for a Spanish getaway, so it’s undoubtedly disrupted arrangements.

In a video, the expat exclaimed: “Oh my goodness, this is extremely spooky. The extreme Benidorm mist has arrived and you can barely see any of the rooftop buildings.”

Harry proceeded with his footage, making his way towards the beach where he also noted to his 50,000 followers that you can “barely see the sea”.

With nobody in sight during his filming, he confessed he’d been left “freaked” by the natural, weather-related occurrence that’s put a stop to trips to the beach.

Harry said: “It’s awfully gone cold in the last few minutes. Some strange things are happening in Benidorm tonight (February 23). One minute it’s absolutely lovely and it’s clear skies – and the next it’s this extremely strange mist has appeared in Benidorm.”

Upon arriving at the promenade, meanwhile, Harry characterised the scene as “eerie” and “freaky”. He questioned: “What’s next? Could it snow in Benidorm?”

And the unusual conditions weren’t confined to the evening hours. Benidorm Now noted in their own experience in an Instagram clip.

They said: “Levante Beach swallowed by thick mist. Benidorm’s famous Levante Beach looks completely different today as a thick mist rolls in and covers the skyline! It almost feels mysterious and unreal… have you ever seen it like this before?”

They continued: “The fog is silently creeping in, swallowing the lights and turning the city into pure mystery. Everything feels calm… almost too calm. Would you walk into this fog tonight? Enjoy your evening and stay safe – moments like this feel unreal.”

Even though the fog has unsettled some residents and holidaymakers, it’s important to remember that Benidorm’s weather during February can occasionally be somewhat unpredictable.

Indeed, February on the Costa Blanca is generally mild, though temperatures can drop considerably after sunset. Daytime temperatures range between 12C and 18C, whilst nighttime conditions tend to hover between 6C and 10C.

Whilst considerably sunnier and warmer than northern Europe, conditions aren’t quite suitable for traditional beach activities. Rainfall occurs fairly frequently – with February ranking amongst the dampest months.
