Beautiful Spanish city which is 24C in November with stunning beaches | Travel News | Travel

Spain continues to be the top choice for Britons planning their summer getaways. However, this Mediterranean gem is also a popular destination for those seeking a pre-Christmas break.

Its coastal towns offer mild to warm climates even in November, perfect for Britons seeking winter sun. One such notable destination is San Sebastián de La Gomera.

This capital city of La Gomera in the Canary Islands is believed to have been Christopher Columbus’ departure point for his voyage to the New World.

According to travel company Tui, San Sebastian’s November temperatures are quite mild during the day, with an average daily maximum of 24C and a minimum of 18C.

However, visitors should be prepared for some rain and pack jumpers or a light jacket, especially for the evenings.

Those fortunate enough to visit San Sebastián in November have a 56 percent chance of enjoying a perfectly sunny day and can certainly take a dip in the water, which averages a temperature of 23C.

The city, along with the rest of La Gomera, boasts several stunning beaches where visitors can swim in the Atlantic Ocean.

San Sebastián, nestled on an island with plenty of secluded beaches, boasts Playa de San Sebastian and Playa de la Cueva, just a stone’s throw from the city centre—ideal for those keen to stay local.

It is a haven for beach lovers during November, and tourists can also indulge in various leisure activities at the harbour.

History enthusiasts will be captivated by the city’s connections to Columbus, so much so that San Sebastián is dubbed “Isla Colombina”.  These historic ties are also highlighted on the city’s coat of arms, which is emblazoned with the phrase: “From here, Columbus set out.”

Key attractions include the church of La Asunción, the Pozo de la Aguada, and the Torre del Conde.

Those yearning to explore further can traverse La Gomera, the diminutive gem of the Canary Islands, following over 600 kilometres of trails crisscrossing the terrain.

However, getting to La Gomera isn’t as easy as to other Canary Islands. You’ll need a flight and a ferry—or multiple flights.

There are many daily flights from most European countries to the Canary Islands. If you’re flying from Europe, you’ll likely need to change flights to Tenerife or Gran Canaria.

The ferry departs from the port of Los Cristianos in Tenerife and arrives at San Sebastián de La Gomera. The ferry ride takes about 50 to 60 minutes.

Alternatively, if you want to bring a vehicle to La Gomera, you can take a ferry from Cádiz or Huelva to Tenerife and then continue to La Gomera.
