Barcelona target Man City star over Marcus Rashford as brutal point made | Football | Sport
Barcelona could choose to pursue Manchester City winger Savinho instead of Marcus Rashford during the summer transfer window, according to reports from Spain. Rashford moved to Barca on loan from Manchester United prior to the 2025/26 campaign and has delivered an impressive contribution, recording 10 goals and 13 assists across 34 matches.
Manager Hansi Flick holds the 28-year-old in high regard, though opted against introducing him from the substitutes’ bench during the La Liga fixture with Levante as Barcelona were comfortably ahead. The availability of Lamine Yamal and Raphinha also means his minutes on the pitch are not assured when both players are match-fit.
The publication indicates he is regarded as a ‘market opportunity’ for Barcelona, considering his restricted appearances at the Etihad Stadium. Flick is reportedly an admirer of numerous qualities that Savinho, estimated at approximately £40million, possesses, and is convinced the winger would thrive in Spain.
It has further been reported that Flick considers the 21-year-old potentially more valuable to Barcelona than United loanee Rashford. It’s been a turbulent season for Savinho, with injuries and fierce competition for places restricting him to just 535 minutes of Premier League football.
Tottenham were strongly linked with the Brazilian winger last summer, with the player himself reportedly keen on a move to guarantee regular first-team football ahead of a World Cup year. Should Barcelona choose to pursue Savinho or an alternative winger over Rashford, a return to Old Trafford could well be on the cards.
Interim manager Michael Carrick is said to be enthusiastic about welcoming him back should he be handed the role on a permanent basis. Speaking candidly about Rashford, he said: “It’s difficult to say, because circumstances at certain times that I have not been involved in.
“It’s difficult for me to comment really. I think the fact he’s come through the academy and had such a big impact here is a positive, and as a club, he’s had some really big moments and good moments. “And I’ve shared some with him in the past. So, football throws up certain things, and obviously certain players. You can’t stay here forever, and things happen, that’s how it is.”
