A baker has been killed in a tragic accident after her scarf got stuck in the roller of a bread-maker. Emergency services rushed to the horrific scene after a customer noticed Zoe Letsiou’s absence at her bakery. The 49-year-old was working at her company in Larissa, Greece, when her scarf suddenly got caught in the machine, causing the item to tighten around her neck.

Paramedics rushed to the bakery, where they exhausted their best efforts to save the baker’s life. However, despite their best efforts to resuscitate her, Ms Letsiou was pronounced dead at the scene. A neighbouring baker told ANT1: “The woman had finished production and was cleaning the machine, according to what her brother-in-law said. 

“She was wearing a scarf which, when the machine started, got caught in the rollers and became a noose, and the scarf around her neck strangled her.”

The baker’s death has sent shockwaves through the small community in Damasi, located approximately 30km northwest of Larissa, as tributes pour in for Ms Letsiou.

“What a shame, young woman. My deepest condolences to the family,” one person said. Another wrote online: “Give courage to her family to bear the pain.”

Following her death, the authorities have launched an investigation into the tragic accident as they aim to determine the exact cause of the baker’s death. 

The rare accident is not the first time a person has innocently died from a clothing-related machine accident. A similar tragedy took place in 2013 when a mother died after her scarf became caught in a food processor.

The 58-year-old woman died at her home in the La Metare district of Saint-Etienne, a city in eastern central France in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region.

She was reportedly making a cake with her son, who was 15 at the time, when the accident occurred.
