Andy Murray announces ‘new addition to the family’ eight months after heartbreaking loss | Tennis | Sport

Andy Murray and his family have welcomed a new four-legged friend into the fold. The former world No. 1 took to social media to share some adorable snaps of their new brown pooch over the weekend.

It comes just eight months after the Murray family’s beloved border terrier dog, Rusty, passed away. They also had another dog, Maggie May, who died in 2022. But Murray, his wife Kim, and their four children have now opened their home to another companion.

“New addition to the family,” the three-time Major winner wrote on Instagram, revealing they had adopted a new dog.

In the first photo, Murray had a beaming smile on his face as he petted his new dog. The second snap showed the adorable puppy sitting on the floor and posing for the camera.

In November last year, the 38-year-old also took to social media to pay tribute to Rusty, his family dog, who had passed away.

He wrote: “You were the most loyal and protective companion our family could have wished for.

“You were so patient and gentle with the kids and we all learned so much from you. The house feels empty without you in it… Love you ruzz rest easy poppet.”

Murray will have his hands full with his new puppy, but the Brit has plenty of free time after retiring from professional tennis at the Olympics last summer.

A few months after ending his tennis career, he started coaching old rival Novak Djokovic. Murray joined the world No. 6 at the Australian Open, Indian Wells, Miami Open, and Madrid Open this year before their partnership came to an end.

Now, the former No. 1 spends most of the time on the golf course, but he’s also enjoying being at home with his family.

Earlier this summer, Murray told GQ: “Right now, I don’t really do anything. I’m a father, essentially.

“I used to have to explain [to them] that I’m going away to play a tournament. They liked it when I lost, because that meant I was coming home.”

Now, he’ll have another reason to stay at home, as he’s got a new pup to train.
