Amazon’s latest Fire TV Stick is back down to its cheapest price ever
We’re not sure why the retailer has decided to discount its latest Fire TV Stick again, but we aren’t complaining. It usually costs £49.99, which seems too steep, but for a penny under £20 it’s a steal.
The perk here is in the name. Not all Fire TV Sticks are compatible with streaming 4K content on 4K compatible TVs, but this one is. Simply plug it into an HDMI prot on your TV and hook it up to the mains, and you can stream to your heart’s content over WI-Fi via the apps you’re used to, from Prime Video to Netflix, BBC iPlayer, Disney+, Apple TV, YouTube and many more besides.
You can even now access Xbox Game Pass via this version of the TV Stick for access to some gaming titles with a subscription – even if you don’t have an Xbox.
While the Fire TV Stick 4K Select streams in 4K HDR, it does not support Dolby Vision standards, which you might want if you are a true audio/visual expert, but most people won’t be bothered by that omission. The Fire TV Stick 4K and Fire TV Stick 4K Max have that if you really want it.
The Fire TV Stick 4K Select also comes with the Alexa Voice Remote so you can press the Alexa button and control your TV with voice commands, but it can also control smart home devices such as lights, thermostats and even smart cameras such as the Ring doorbell range. The latter can beam who is at your door straight onto your telly – Ring is owned by Amazon, so everything works seamlessly.
In the past, Fire TV Sticks have proven popular as people have been able to sideload Android apps from other sources onto them to watch content from outside the Amazon app store. This has now been blocked by Amazon, and only apps in the firm’s store can be downloaded, closing this popular loophole and use of the TV Stick.
But if you only want to stream from mainstream apps or are fed up with how slow the apps on your smart TV have become, this Fire TV Stick 4K Select for £19.99 is a bargain. It’s easy to use and is a fast and reliable way to get your TV streaming with minimal fuss.
Amazon says this price is a “limited time deal” so we don’t know how long this discount will last.
