Amazon is dishing out £89 smart TVs today with one upgrade that even matches Sky

It’s no secret that more households are ditching traditional TV for streaming. Sky has already confirmed that most of its new customers are choosing internet-powered products like Sky Glass instead of Sky Q devices that need satellite dishes to work. Sky’s latest products are leading the pack thanks to features such as Playlist, reduced latency and personalised recommendations, but there is another way to stream live TV, sport and movies — and it’s just become even more affordable.

Freely launched last year, and it works much like Sky’s internet-based services. Instead of needing an aerial, it delivers all its content over your home broadband. It even includes premium features such as offering personalised recommendations, live-pause functionality and a backwards TV guide so you can jump straight into shows that have already aired.

When Freely first launched, it was only available on a handful of new TVs. But over the past 12 months, that’s changed with a swathe of models now featuring this free-to-view streaming platform.

Even better news is that there’s now more choice at lower prices. Amazon has even just announced a deal that’s offering a Toshiba TV – that’s powered by Freely – for just £89.

For that very low price, you’ll get a 24-inch HD screen, full Freely support, access to apps like Netflix, Disney+ and ITVX, HDR10 for richer picture quality, parental controls, a quad-core processor and two HDMI ports.

It is worth noting that this deal will end today, December 2. Freely also doesn’t include premium content such as Sky Sports or Sky Cinema — for that, you’ll need Sky Glass or the cheaper Sky Stream box. A Sky Glass package with access to premium entertainment, sport and movies starts at around £42 per month.
