Amazon gives you another even cheaper way to get the ultimate Kindle upgrade
On Saturday, my colleague Dave Snelling wrote about the Amazon Kindle Scribe because the 2022 model was, and still is, on sale for a huge £130 discount. That is a great deal, but now there is an even cheaper way to get Amazon’s high-end Kindle.
Now, Amazon is offering the Kindle Scribe for £199.99, a massive 39 percent off this model’s £329.99 RRP. It’s even cheaper because this model comes with Amazon’s Basic Pen, whereas the pricier sale model came with the Premium Pen.
The choice of pens is because you can write on the screen of the Kindle Scribe, the only Kindle on which you can do so. The Basic Pen lets you write, draw and sketch in notebooks or in annotations within e-books, while the Premium Pen adds an eraser on the end and a button to quicker switch tools to something such as a highlighter.
If you’re not fussed about those extra bits, the Scribe with Basic Pen will suit you just fine and is £30 less at £199.99.
This Kindle Scribe is the first generation of Amazon’s 10.2-inch e-reader, which lets you read and buy Kindle books and display them on a much larger screen. This is great if you want to fit more words on the page or if you want to increase the text size considerably. It’s also great if you like to read books with graphs, charts or illustrations.
But the Scribe’s killer feature is the ability to annotate in books. Write on the screen while reading and a box will appear, the text filling in around it automatically. You can then make notes just like you might in a real paper book, in what Amazon refers to as its Active Canvas feature.
Elsewhere in the Scribe’s specialised software you can create your own digital notebooks for personal or work use, meaning the Scribe is a great do-all device that can replace both your books and your notebook, if you want one gadget to carry around instead.
And although Amazon has released a newer version of the Scribe since this one, both models have got the exact same software updates, so you don’t lose out by opting for this cheaper version. AI tools in the software can help you summarise your handwritten notes, while you can also connect third-party services such as Google Drive and Microsoft Word to mark up documents and PDFs.
This Scribe is discounted in what Amazon says is a “limited time deal” so it’s not clear how long this lower price will last, so if it looks like the Kindle for you, now is the time to take the plunge.
