‘All-time great’ sci-fi film is now on Netflix | TV & Radio | Showbiz & TV
Netflix has added one of the greatest summer blockbusters ever made to its library of classic 90s films, and fans of sci-fi movies in particular are in for a treat.
The film, which was released in 1993, was inspired by a novel by Michael Crichton and it stars some huge names like Kaos star Jeff Goldblum and Richard Attenborough.
Before Crichton’s novel was even published, four studios put in bids for its film rights and it indeed turned out to be a global hit.
At the time, groundbreaking CGI technology was used and it received critical acclaim, with particular praise aimed at its special effects.
The film in question is Jurassic Park, which was a blockbuster hit and went on to gross over $914 million (£677 million) worldwide, becoming the highest-grossing film of all time until the release of Titanic in 1997.
Since its release, many film critics have regarded it as one of the greatest summer blockbusters ever made, with its use of CGI acting as a turning point that shaped the visual effects techniques used in modern cinema.
The film went on to spawn a multimedia franchise that includes six sequels, video games, theme park attractions, comic books and more.
In 2018, it was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry for being “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant”.
Fans have taken to IMDb reviews over the years to share their thoughts on the film, with NightmareOnElmStreetFan sharing: “Jurassic Park is one of the best classic science fiction action adventure movies, one of my personal number one favorite adventure dinosaur films of all time.
“It is Steven Spielberg‘s ultimate thrill ride. It has great visual effects, breathtaking story, it has heart and soul it defines my childhood.”
LeyX4Love hailed it an “all-time great”, adding: “This movie was so great. It’s one of my mom’s favorite movies. Love the characters, Graphics, I love everything about 90s movies. Must watch before seeing the new ones. I watch this movie three or four times a year.”
Eternalsea shared: “Jurassic Park is simply my favourite movie ever. It has everything action, suspense, thrills and even a little romance thrown in for good measure. I first saw the movie at the age of 6 and was a big dinosaur fan so it obviously was very appealing but even then I could feel there was so much more to this movie than the great visual effects and mighty dinosaurs.”
Elephantfest called it “one of the best dinosaur or adventure movies of all time”, while Mrman69420 called it “perfect”, adding: “100% one of the best movies of all time. The cast, acting, action and mostly visuals are spectacular!!! Most of the sequels are also amazing!!!”
Richarduck4077 concluded: “Jurassic Park is one those movies you can keep watching over and over again and never get sick of. The CGI holds up amazingly and it will give you a new interest in dinosaurs. Even though the movie is not scientifically accurate, it’s a must-watch to anyone who loves movies.”
