Air ambulance rushes to League One stadium as club confirm medical incident | Football | Sport

An air ambulance rushed to the Select Car Leasing Stadium to deal with a medical incident ahead of Monday’s fixture between Reading and Lincoln City. The match, which could see the visitors seal promotion to the Championship, is scheduled to begin at 3pm this afternoon. However, a medical incident several hours before kick-off saw an emergency response called into action.

In a statement, Reading said: “We are currently assisting with a medical incident at the stadium, with the air ambulance in attendance. There is no impact on today’s fixture. Further updates will be provided in due course.”

A subsequent update read: “The air ambulance has now departed the stadium and all car parks have reopened. Traffic has built up in the surrounding area and will be busier than usual. Thank you for your patience.”

Reading are expecting their biggest crowd of the season to date for the fixture, with both teams in contention to earn promotion from League One.

The hosts are currently sixth in the table and will be looking to secure a play-off place between now and the end of the campaign.

Lincoln, meanwhile, have dominated for much of the season and now find themselves on the verge of a historic promotion to the Championship.

A draw at the Select Car Leasing Stadium would be enough to seal the deal, ensuring they would play second-tier football next season for the first time since 1961.

Lincoln put themselves on the brink of glory on Friday, with Ryan One scoring a late winner against Wimbledon to set them up for a potential promotion party on Easter Monday.

Speaking ahead of the game against Reading, manager Michael Skubala said: “It’s not for me to dream. That’s for the fans. For me, it’s to keep focused.

“Keep the group focused, keep the staff focused, which we are. We’re humble, we’re hard working and it sounds great [but] we just want to win the next game, honestly.”

Quizzed on Lincoln’s prospects of victory, Skubala added: “It’s a big club again, big resources, ex-Premier League club. It’s not a small club, they’re a big club. We like taking on the big clubs, we like being us and taking on the big teams.

“It’s going to be a really tough game, but I thought today it just shows you how hard it is to win football matches at this level and to go, like you say, 23 unbeaten. Is it 18 wins or 17 wins now?

“It’s been excellent, but we want to keep going. We want to keep pushing. We want to keep going right to the very end.”
