A rapist from Afghanistan secured British asylum and lived freely in the UK for six years after a series of devastating Home Office failures.

Authorities arrested Omar Ali Noori, 31, in Austria over a 2018 rape allegation before he skipped bail and made his way illegally to Britain in 2019.

Despite being a fugitive from Austrian justice, Whitehall immigration officials awarded him permanent settlement rights in 2023 — a five-year grant that allowed him to bring his wife, 23, to join him in 2024.

Multiple false identities uncovered

Court documentation reported on by the Sun exposed that Noori maintained four distinct identities while submitting paperwork listing five conflicting birth dates.

An extradition judge has now ruled that Noori — currently detained in Wandsworth Prison, South West London — must return to Austria to complete a three-year custodial sentence, states the report.

Judge Neeta Minhas is reported to have said: “Noori was directly asked if he had committed or been accused of an offence in any country or whether he had been detained in any country.

“His response to both questions was in the negative. This was clearly not accurate…I find the Noori is a fugitive.”

Noori is now appealing the ruling, states the report.

Ministry vows deportation reforms

A Home Office spokeswoman said: “This individual’s extradition proceedings are ongoing.

“We review individuals’ immigration status should new information come to light that it was obtained through fraud, false representation, or concealment of a material fact.

“We will not allow foreign criminals and illegal migrants to exploit our laws.

“We are reforming human rights laws and replacing the broken appeals system so we can scale up deportations.”
