With azure waters and white sand dunes against the backdrop of majestic mountains, this is one of the ‘world’s most beautiful beaches’ and it’s the UK’s answer to the Caribbean.

Nestled on the shore of the Isle of Harris in Scotland is the breathtakingly beautiful Luskentyre Beach. It has been ranked among the best beaches in the world by TripAdvisor’s Travellers’ Choice Awards, and has frequently been named as one of the best beaches across the UK in various accolades.

It’s easy to see why Luskentyre Beach has earned such high praise, with its crystal-clear turquoise waters and stretches of sugar-white sand against the backdrop of the Isle of Harris’ mountains. It has a striking resemblance to the Caribbean’s picturesque shores and is untouched by crowds, offering a slice of pure paradise.

The majestic mountains and white sand dunes add a dramatic scene to the immaculate shores, with views across to the uninhabited island of Taransay. This island was famously used as the filming location for the BBC series, Castaway, due to its remote location.

But Luskentyre Beach is what draws attention today. It’s a haven for walkers, with strolls across more than three miles of pristine sand and through its white dunes, and picture-perfect vistas. It’s even left visitors utterly speechless.

One visitor dubbed Luskentyre as ‘one of the best beaches in the world’ and shared a glowing review on TripAdvisor. “Luskentyre beach is the most stunning beach I have ever visited, which is saying something, as I am in my seventieth year. When I first saw it, my breath was literally taken away. It has beautiful sand and is never crowded. The sea is crystal clear, and there are views across to Taransay,” they said.

Another couldn’t agree more as they wrote: “This beach is Outstanding!!! I’ve never seen anything quite like it before. The views on the drive up to the car park are otherworldly. Beautiful turquoise water, soft golden sand that stretches for miles, grass-covered dunes.” They further noted that there’s a public toilet at the car park, and even caught a glimpse of two Highland cows “sitting on the bluff overlooking the beach, chewing their cud”.

One happy visitor was left questioning, “Am I in the Caribbean?” and exclaimed, “Words do not do this beach justice”. They described the “amazingly gorgeous beach” with “sand in its purest form and the water as blue as can be”.

Another also shared: “The most talked about and visited beach on the Isle of Harris, and for good reason, it’s stunningly beautiful and breathtaking, the vast view and wildness of the sea is just a bucket list must.”

While it may not be the easiest beach to reach, due to its remote position on the Isle of Harris, it’s certainly alot closer than the beaches in the Caribbean, and a lot cheaper! Plus, the chance to touch foot on the unspoilt white sands and dip a toe into the turquoise waters while soaking up its incredible vistas is enough to warrant a visit.
