Man Utd offered chance to sign Barcelona star as Marcus Rashford stance clear | Football | Sport
Manchester United are said to be presented with the opportunity to sign Barcelona star Ferran Torres amidst ongoing speculation surrounding Marcus Rashford’s future. United loaned out Rashford to the La Liga side last summer on a deal which also features the option to make the transfer permanent at the end of the season.
Rashford made known his wish to depart Old Trafford last summer, prompting United to arrange an deal that saw the England international leave the club on loan with an option to buy for Barcelona.
With merely a couple of months remaining until Rashford’s loan deal concludes, it appears United may be presented with the chance to bring in one of Barcelona’s players this summer.
TEAMtalk report that Torres has emerged as a player who could join United this summer from Barcelona.
The report suggests that Barcelona are attempting to manage their finances for another summer transfer window, which could involve permitting certain players to depart in order to finance the acquisition of fresh talent.
Consequently, it has been suggested that Torres has been “offered” to United as Barcelona seek to secure Rashford’s services at the Camp Nou for an additional season. Barcelona hold the option to sign Rashford permanently for €30million (£26million), yet various reports indicate that the Spanish giants have been exploring the possibility of keeping the United star on loan for a further season.
Consequently, it is claimed that Barcelona have put forward the prospect of United signing Torres, 26, which could encourage the Red Devils to be more accommodating in allowing Rashford to extend his loan spell, should the opportunity arise.
United are reportedly “intrigued” by Barcelona’s proposal regarding Torres, though it remains unclear what decision both the player and the Red Devils would reach were such a deal to materialise.
Torres has delivered an outstanding campaign at Barcelona this season, netting 16 goals across all competitions, contributing to the club’s progression to the Champions League quarter-finals while maintaining a four-point advantage over Real Madrid at the top of the La Liga table.
Rashford has previously made no secret of his desire to remain at Barcelona beyond his current loan deal.
“[I want to stay for] as many [seasons] as possible. We will see,” Rashford told TNT Sports back in October.
“I have to focus on trying to do my job and trying to help the team in whichever way I can.”
He added: “I’m learning a lot, it’s a new style of football. But it’s making me a better player. Honestly, it’s an amazing experience. I’ve always been a huge admirer of Barcelona, every player my age has watched them play, it’s amazing football.”
