Nationwide alert as members told how to avoid extra fees | Personal Finance | Finance

Nationwide has issued an alert to members across the UK, warning that customers could face additional charges.

The banking giant regularly keeps its members informed, and text messages have been dispatched this week. The alert urges customers to carry out a straightforward task that could make their banking experience smoother and help them avoid any unwanted additional fees.

The message reads: “If you have push notifications on your device turned on, you’ll get balance, overdraft and payment alerts.

“You can view them by tapping the bell icon in our app. If you’ve turned push notifications off in your device settings, you may miss important alerts, which may lead to charges.”

The alert comes as Nationwide members currently await news on whether the building society will issue £100 bonuses later this year.

In 2023, 2024, and 2025, Nationwide distributed £100 ‘Fairer Share’ payments to customers who met certain criteria, and the building society has confirmed it intends to do so again this year.

However, the financial institution said “this will depend on how we perform financially”.

In previous years, members had to meet certain criteria by March 31. Fairer Share payments have previously been confirmed in May, with payments subsequently made in June.
