Thomas Tuchel left fuming at horror tackle as England star forced off | Football | Sport

England boss Thomas Tuchel was furious with referee Sven Jablonski after Phil Foden was on the receiving end of a rough tackle from Uruguay’s Ronald Araujo. The defender escaped any punishment despite the challenge occuring right in-front of the fourth official.

Foden required treatment on the pitch before resuming. However, he only lasted around five more minutes before Cole Palmer was introduced in his place.

After leaving the pitch, the Manchester City star headed straight down the tunnel for treatment. He later returned to the bench to watch his teammates in action.

Tuchel cut a frustrated figure during the incident and appeared to vent his anger at fourth official Benjamin Brand. The England head coach protested the challenge initially before seeming to be bemused by the lack of a card.

Araujo wasn’t even booked by Jablonski, despite replays showing that he caught Foden with some force. It took the referee until the 70th minute to get his cards out, with Manchester United’s Manuel Ugarte booked for a foul on Palmer.

There was a number of challenges that folloed the Foden incident which left Tuchel furious. The German appeared to be protesting the manner of the challenges on his players and the fact Jablonski was allowing them to go unpunished.

The Three Lions finally made a breakthrough at Wembley courtesy of Ben White’s goal. The Arsenal defender marked his return to the national side with a tap-in at the back post from a corner.

White had received a mixed reception when he came on for Fikayo Tomori. Prior to his call-up this week, White had ruled himself out of contention for the England squad after a reported fall-out with Steve Holland.
