The research considered factors such as yearly income, insurance coverage, cost of living, safety ratings, living affordability, and overall quality of life.

New Jersey was named one of the best states to relocate to in 2026, for living and working. Expats in New Jersey can expect high salaries, a safe environment, and a nice climate. One of the top retirement spots in New Jersey is Cape May, a beautiful seaside resort that “feels frozen in time”. Cape May is a walkable historic town, and one of the oldest seaside resorts, featuring 19th-century Victorian homes, charming shops and nice restaurants.

The region has a humid subtropical climate with hot, humid summers. According to Great Family Vacations, Cape May is one of the best places to retire in the United States.

The beautiful town offers pensioners a quiet coastal lifestyle, scenic beaches, and a vibrant and welcoming community. The travel experts said: “Cape May, on the southernmost tip of New Jersey, is much more than another seaside retreat.”

American retiree Michael Potts said: “Cape May is a nice Victorian town. It has terrific restaurants, great beaches and is laid-back. It has exactly what we were looking for.”

Another pensioner said: “There’s endless walking in town and a path along the beach. The beaches are clean; the architecture is beautiful.”

British expats took to Tripadvisor to share their thoughts, with one saying that the American town feels like stepping back in time because it has “the largest concentration of Victorian houses in the US”.

Another one said that it reminded him of Brighton. “The shops are especially similar. The beach in Brighton was all stones, which made it quite hard to walk. The pier in Brighton reminded me of some of the boardwalks in Wildwood or Ocean City, NJ.”
