‘My nurse-approved Skechers are the comfiest trainers I own’
A top quality pair of trainers is one staple piece everyone needs in their clothing rotation, but it seems the cost of such a thing has soared in recent years. A quick internet search for the most popular designs amongst young people shows prices effortlessly hit close to £100.
With this in mind, I’ve practically worn all of mine down to nothing, including a cherished pair of Nikes I’ve owned for approximately six years now. They’ve been outstanding and were rather expensive, around £80 at the time of purchase. Although it appears the exact model isn’t available anymore, the closest similarity I can find is these Nike React Visions that are reduced to £71.49 from £129.99 on the Nike website.
And so my quest to discover a comfortable pair that matched my previous Nikes’ quality began and led me to try Skechers. In particular its Summits Sneakers after spotting a rather impressive Amazon deal had slashed the price by 36% from £59 to a wallet-friendly £37.62. The price point was certainly appealing, and after sifting through the reviews and observing how many customers were exceptionally positive about the comfort, I took the plunge.
While I’ve not had them for too long, thus far it seems to be a brilliant choice – in fact, they’re so comfortable I’m contemplating ordering a second pair while they’re at this price. There are several colour options available (though the prices differ depending on this and the size required), but I selected the black ones to guarantee they don’t appear filthy whenever I wear them when it’s a bit damp outdoors.
I’ve only had them for a couple of days, but the comfort so far has astounded me. I have a couple of family members who wax lyrical about Skechers, and I can certainly understand why. The padding, particularly for trainers at this price point, is exceptional, with the insoles comprising a thick layer of memory foam that truly gives that walking on clouds sensation, reports the Mirror.
I’m fond of the slip-on design as well – I’m a big fan of Crocs for this exact reason, always keeping a pair near the back door so I can quickly put them on to take the bins out (when the dog hasn’t nicked them). It just makes them incredibly handy.
My only observation of a drawback so far is that the absence of laces means they’re slightly looser than I’d usually have my shoes. It’s not a massive issue, but it is noticeable and anyone who likes to tighten their laces might not get on with this slip-on design.
For those who prefer traditional laces, Sports Direct has reduced a pair of New Balance Road Running shoes by £10, priced at £49.99. They feature a fresh foam midsole, with lightweight cushioning.
‘Fantastic work shoes for nurses’
Shoppers who have snapped up this Skechers deal on Amazon have left glowing reviews of the trainers, with them having an average of 4.5 stars out of 5. One said: “Fantastic work shoes for nurses. Lightweight, exceedingly comfortable and durable. Will be buying more when needed if the price is reasonable.”
Another added: “Reliable and comfortable, not the first time I’ve bought this style from Skechers. They’re easy to slip on and don’t squeeze my feet, which is a big plus.
“I usually try to grab them when they’re on offer due to our budget, but honestly, they’re worth full price if you can stretch to it.” Another said: “Good fit, light as a feather. I use a long shoe horn that makes them incredibly easy to put on. Very comfy.”
Despite the positives, a small number of purchasers highlighted concerns, including one who noted: “Once the trainers are on, they are very light and comfortable. The problem is getting them on. The aperture where you insert your foot is very tight, with not a lot of flexibility.”
