Fans have just a few days to watch one of the greatest movies of all time on Netflix before it is removed from the streaming platform this month. The Godfather, renowned as one of the most influential films ever made, has a near-perfect 98% score on Rotten Tomatoes and is widely praised by viewers and critics alike, on and off the platform.

The 1972 film is renowned as being a landmark production of the gangster genre and one of the most famous films. Though for those not familiar with the ins and outs of the film, the synopsis on Rotten Tomatoes reads: “Widely regarded as one of the greatest films of all time, this mob drama, based on Mario Puzo’s novel of the same name, focuses on the powerful Italian-American crime family of Don Vito Corleone (Marlon Brando).

“When the don’s youngest son, Michael (Al Pacino), reluctantly joins the Mafia, he becomes involved in the inevitable cycle of violence and betrayal. Although Michael tries to maintain a normal relationship with his wife, Kay (Diane Keaton), he is drawn deeper into the family business.”

Despite being released over half a century ago, it remains one of the most cherished films in history, with fans even claiming that it gets “better with time”.

One fan, rating the film a five out of five, described it as “an absolute masterpiece” – a phrase used by many to describe the film.

Other viewers echoed and emphasised its influence and being, with one saying it is a “perfect movie from beginning to end”.

Another wrote: “Greatest film ever made, everything about it, aside from the fight scene between Sonny and his brother in law, is brilliant. My only 5-star film. Amazing.”

Critics over the years have also made shining comments about the film, with Time Out giving it a perfect five out of five score in 2024.

It added: “This is not only grand entertainment, but an emotional and intellectual experience to rival any in cinema.”
