Located north of Ambleside, you’ll find the idyllic village of Grasmere. The village is a small and peaceful place, ideal for travellers and tourists looking for a serene base in the lakes. William Wordsworth was once a resident in Grasmere, which has put it on the map for generations.

Whether you’re a fan of his works or not, it’s fascinating to visit Dove Cottage, where he once lived, and the Wandsworth Museum.

You can also pay your respects at his grave, as the poet is also buried in the village.

For nature lovers, you can head out into the vast greenery which surrounds Grasmere.

It’s worth catching a sunset from Helm Crag, which is a reasonably easy route.

The walk is just over two miles (there and back) and whilst it does involve a fair amount of uphill, it’s not too challenging.

Another must-visit spot is Rydal Caves, which is an eerie spot to explore. The cave is just three miles from Grasmere, making it a popular place for visitors as it is within walking distance.
