Fears of World War three have increased today after a weapons expert warned that Iranian missiles had been severly understimated with the Iranian regime potenitally posseing explosives that could reach London, Paris and Berlin.Tensions between the UK and Tehran have increased to new heights in recent days after they launched two ballistic missiles at the joint UK-US Diego Garcia military base.
The aggression pushed Keir Starmer to have a change in heart in relation to the conflict, authorising an expansion of America’s use of British sites. With the UK military edging closer to the conflict, light has been shone back on home soil with fears Iran may turn it’s sights towards Europe. It had been believed Iran’s missiles have a range of 2,000km. However after the latest strike against the the Diego Garcia base, they struck a target 3,800km from Tehran. While London is roughly 4,435km away the show of force has been cause for concern.

One foreign affairs analyst Nawaf Al-Thani, warned that the new strike signals Iran’s force may have been overlooked. Mr Al-Thani added: “Iran may have demonstrated reach far beyond what much of the world believed it possessed. Paris comes into range. London moves much closer to the edge of vulnerability depending on launch point and payload.
“This would mean the missile threat is no longer confined to the Gulf, Israel, or parts of South Asia. It would mean the radius of deterrence, defense, and fear has expanded dramatically. If confirmed, Diego Garcia was not just a target. It was a message.”
Israel also warned that Europe may soon be involved in the war. Defence minister Israel Katz said that strikes will “intensify” in the coming week, with a “significant” increase in attacks.
The IDF stated the Diego Garcia attack was the first time Iran had launched a long-range missile, capable of reaching a distance of around 4,000km, since the onset of the war.
In a statement, a spokesperson claimed: “The Iranian terrorist regime poses a global threat. Now, with missiles that can reach London, Paris or Berlin.”

However, neither Iranian projectile struck the facility on the Chagos Islands, in the Indian Ocean, after one reportedly malfunctioned mid-flight and the other was intercepted by the United States.
Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper said: “This is the latest in Iran’s reckless strikes aiming at Gulf partners, at international shipping, at allies and at British interests as well.
“That is why we have continued to support defensive action to support UK interests including offensive action against ballistic missile threats. We want to see as swift as possible resolution to this conflict, that supports regional security and stability, because that is what we need for UK security and for our economy as well.”
While retired Royal Navy commodore Steve Prest warned that the move was Iran flexing their muscles and showing”look what we can do.”
Mr Prest added: “Ballistic missiles are space rockets. They launch, they go really high up and they come down really fast. If you’ve got a space program, you’ve got a ballistic missile program.”
