Foreign Office issues travel warning for 33 countries – full list | Travel News | Travel
The Foreign Office has updated its travel guidance for 33 countries – in an urgent alert for thousands if not millions of UK tourists. The FCDO has released a series of fresh travel warnings at around 2pm today.
The advisories from the FCDO, all published on Thursday, March 19, convey the same message to British nationals, tourists and holidaymakers. The warnings arrive as the situation in the Middle East continues to escalate.
The conflict in Iran, involving the US, Iran and Israel, is approaching its fourth week this weekend. And it displays no indication of abating, with a Strait of Hormuz blockade causing oil prices to soar globally.
The FCDO advice states: “Escalation in the Middle East has caused widespread travel disruption, including airspace closures, delayed and cancelled flights.
“Your travel plans may be affected, even if your destination is not in the Middle East. Before you travel check travel advice for any countries or territories you are transiting through.”, reports Birmingham Live.
The FCDO also encourages Brits, before they travel, to “check for the latest updates from your airline or tour operator before travelling”.
You should also “review your travel insurance policy for coverage before you travel,” the FCDO said.
And remember to monitor local and international media for the latest information and sign up for travel advice email alerts. In final guidance, the FCDO additionally advised: “Be mindful of your permitted length of stay in [country name].” The caution applies to nations across Africa, the Far East, Australasia, Asia and further afield.
It also affected one European nation, namely Belarus, with the FCDO stating: “Belarus does not recognise dual nationality. If you have both Belarusian and British passports, the authorities will consider you Belarusian, even if you enter the country on your British passport. Dual British-Belarusian nationality will not reduce your risk of arrest, questioning, or detention if you have engaged in any political activity related to Belarus.”
