Foreign Office warning for Brits travelling abroad – full list | Travel News | Travel
This week, Brits heading abroad have been issued a warning that their travel plans may end up disrupted. The UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FDCO), a government department that gives travel advice in order to keep people safe, has updated its guidance for a number of different popular holiday destinations.
The ongoing situation in the Middle East means that delays and other disruption is likely, even if you’re not actually going there. The FDCO will sometimes advise against all travel to a certain country. While these destinations don’t fall under that category, it’s still important to take note of the advice.
The update reads: “Escalation in the Middle East has caused widespread travel disruption, including airspace closures, delayed and cancelled flights.
“Your travel plans may be affected, even if your destination is not in the Middle East.”
The FDCO has issued this update for countries including Australia, New Zealand and Thailand this week. Before you travel, it’s advised that you check the advice for any countries or territories that you are passing through.
You should also make sure to check for the latest updates from your airline or tour operator before travelling. It can also help to take a look over your travel insurance policy before you travel too, just to check what’s covered if your plans are disrupted.
The FDCO added: “Monitor local and international media for the latest information and sign up for travel advice email alerts.”
Your travel insurance could end up invalidated if you go against the advice from the FDCO, so it’s important to read the details before you fly. Insurance should cover your itinerary, planned activities and expenses in an emergency.
