What Luke Littler did with Cheltenham winnings speaks volumes of darts superstar | Other | Sport
Luke Littler has raised a whopping £2,500 for charity after backing a successful winner during this month’s Cheltenham Festival. The teen is no stranger to victories, having taken the darts world by storm after breaking onto the scene two years ago.
Already a two-time world champion and the No.1-ranked player in the world, Littler took some time out of his busy schedule to attend the Festival in Gloucestershire last week. Littler attended three of the four days, and was spotted enjoying a flutter on some of the races.
But as part of a charity bet with tipsters Pro Sports Advice, Littler helped raise a substantial amount for charity, having backed Lossiemouth in the Champion Hurdle. The Willie Mullins-trained mare ridden by Paul Townsend waltzed to victory, which meant Littler returned £2,500 for The Matthew22 Fund after being granted a £1,000 stake by Pro Sports Advice.
Posting a screenshot to his Instagram story, Littler wrote: “Cheltenham charity bet Lossiemouth was my pick for a straight win and it done the job and wanted the money to go to @thematthew22fund.”
Littler wasn’t at Cheltenham just for the sake of it though, with the Warrington-born ace clearly having a keen interest in the sport itself. But back on the oche, Littler has been told to stay in his own lane when it comes to biting back at the boo boys.
Former world champion Adrian Lewis said: “He was the underdog before and now he’s the world champion and world number one, so the shoe is on the other foot. The crowds feel because he’s the one to beat they can boo him and they’ll want to cheer the next underdog instead.
“I had it in my career and the thing I’d say is the more you bite back, the more it’s going to follow you. It will start in the Premier League and then it will move to the majors – you really don’t want that.
“The fans just love an underdog so it’s quite hard to stop the boos, but you’ve just got to ignore it and get on with it. He’s not the underdog anymore so fans will boo him, that’s just the way of it.”
Littler returns to action for night seven of the Premier League, as he takes on Stephen Bunting in Dublin. Littler currently occupies second spot in the table, as he looks to secure back-to-back Premier League titles.
