Noa Lang shares update from hospital after Liverpool horror injury | Football | Sport
Galatasaray star Noa Lang has undergone surgery after being forced off during the Champions League match against Liverpool after a serious hand injury. The winger went down ten minutes from time after crashing into the advertising boards and immediately clutched his thumb in the closing stages of his side’s 4-0 Champions League defeat at Anfield.
Blood was visible, and the match was halted for several minutes as medics from both teams rushed to treat him. They bandaged his thumb to stem the bleeding before he was taken off on a stretcher. The 26‑year‑old, who was given oxygen, was then transported to hospital for further treatment.
Speaking after the game, Galatasaray head coach Okan Buruk said: “He is going to the hospital because of the important issue he has with his finger. If there is an operation, they will do it here. Victor Osimhen, his arm is hurting and he wanted to get out of the game at half-time and he is at the hospital.”
Taking to Instagram on Thursday morning, Lang shared a photo of himself in a hospital bed alongside nurses. The post read: “Surgery went well! Thanks for all the messages,” followed by a heart emoji. While in a separate post, he wrote: “S**t happens.”
Liverpool‘s Ryan Gravenberch quickly replied to the update with a praying and red heart emoji.
Osimhen also suffered a painful arm injury in the first half, and Galatasaray issued an update on both players in the early hours of Thursday morning.
In a statement, the club wrote: “In the first half of our away match against Liverpool in the Champions League Round of 16 second leg, our player Victor Osimhen took a blow to his arm and completed the first half, but following checks at halftime, he was not played in the second half due to the risk of a fracture in his arm.
“After the match, under the supervision of our medical team, examinations at the hospital revealed a fracture in our player’s right forearm, and it was casted. A decision regarding surgery will be made in the coming days following further evaluations.
“In the second half of the same match, our player Noa Lang, who suffered an injury, sustained a serious cut to his right thumb, and it is planned for him to undergo surgery in Liverpool in the coming hours with the participation of our medical team.”
Liverpool secured their place in the quarter‑finals with a 4-0 second‑leg win at Anfield, as Dominik Szoboszlai, Hugo Ekitike, Ryan Gravenberch and Mohamed Salah all found the net. Arne Slot‘s side will now face Paris Saint‑Germain in the quarter‑finals of the competition, with both legs scheduled for next month.
