A footballer has tragically passed away at the age of 22, sparking a wave of tributes to the young talent. The sudden death of Pablo Jurado Serafin has sent shockwaves through Mexico’s premier division, Liga MX. The promising goalkeeper joined the youth ranks of Mexican heavyweights Deportivo Toluca, currently second in the league, back in 2019.

He was a member of the title challengers’ Under-17, Under-20 and Under-23 teams, carving out a key role in the youth system for one of Mexico’s most triumphant clubs, which boasts 12 Liga MX titles and two CONCACAF Champions Cup victories. During his time in the academy, he also had a brief spell with third-tier side Club Valle de Bravo, before returning to Estadio Nemesio Diez with Toluca.

Despite never making his debut with the senior team, the young shot-stopper spent several years with the club.

His journey with Toluca ended in the summer of 2024, when he was released.

At the time of his death, Jurado Serafin was seeking a new club. As yet, the cause of his death has not been publicly revealed.

The news arrived just days after he turned 22. A club spokesperson stated: “Those of us at Deportivo Toluca Football Club deeply regret the passing of Pablo Jurado Serafín, a former goalkeeper of our institution.

“We send our condolences and best wishes to his friends and family.”

Mikel Arriola, president of the Mexican Football Federation, also paid tribute to the young goalkeeper.

He wrote on X: “I am deeply saddened by the passing of Pablo Jurado Serafín. My condolences and solidarity go out to his family during this time of profound sorrow. I hope they find peace and strength in the face of this irreparable loss.”
