World’s longest flight takes nearly 19 hours and covers more than 9,500 miles | Travel News | Travel

The world’s longest flight links America to Asia, with passengers enduring almost 19 hours in the air. Singapore Airlines currently holds the record for the longest long-haul journey, running between New York’s JFK Airport and Singapore Changi.

Spanning an impressive 9,537 miles, the epic voyage takes 18 hours and 50 minutes and has been operational since the carrier introduced it in 2018. Singapore Airlines utilises its newest Airbus A350-900ULR on the service, an aircraft designed to stay airborne for over 20 hours without requiring refuelling. The aircraft accomplishes these exceptional flight durations courtesy of an upgraded fuel system, which boosts the plane’s complete fuel capacity to an extraordinary 24,000 litres.

However, the service isn’t accessible to all passengers, as Singapore Airlines has eliminated economy class on this specific route. Rather, the carrier provides 67 Business Class seats and 94 Premium Economy Class seats.

Premium Economy passengers can benefit from additional legroom, a footrest, and an adjustable headrest. They’re also provided with noise-cancelling headphones and WiFi throughout their journey, reports the Mirror.

Those travelling in Business class receive maximum privacy, with their seats transforming into completely flat beds for a proper rest whilst flying. The aircraft boasts a range of luxury features including higher ceilings, larger windows and custom lighting designed to minimise jetlag.

The airline asserts that the plane’s advanced carbon composite airframe also enables superior air quality.

Those wishing to secure a seat will need deep pockets, as tickets regularly cost well into five figures. Singapore Airlines’ Chief Executive, Mr Goh Choon Phong, has previously characterised the new route as the “fastest way” to travel between the two metropolitan centres.

He stated: “Singapore Airlines has always taken pride in pushing the boundaries to provide the best possible travel convenience for our customers, and we are pleased to be leading the way with these new non-stop flights using the latest technology, ultra-long-range Airbus A350-900ULR.

“The flights will offer our customers the fastest way to travel between the two cities – in great comfort, together with Singapore Airlines’ legendary service – and will help boost connectivity to and through the Singapore hub.”
