Manchester United defender Ayden Heaven has admitted that he is unconcerned about who occupies the manager’s position at the club, provided they deliver success. Michael Carrick is currently serving as interim boss at Old Trafford through to the end of the season, following Ruben Amorim’s dismissal in January.

Across eight matches, United have secured six victories and risen into the Premier League’s top three positions. Nevertheless, uncertainty remains over whether United will retain Carrick past the summer or seek a permanent replacement. During an appearance on Capital XTRA Breakfast on Friday morning, Heaven was questioned about his views on the managerial situation at United.

When asked who he expects to be manager for the forthcoming season, he responded: “I don’t mind, honestly. I’m just waiting to see, you know. Just whatever’s going to get us over the line.”

Heaven has featured for just seven minutes spread across three fixtures since Carrick’s arrival. He entered as a substitute momentarily during the 2-0 win over Manchester City, before making brief appearances in the victories against Everton and Crystal Palace.

He had featured in all seven of Amorim’s final matches and was given the nod by Darren Fletcher in the 2-2 draw with Burnley. Yet Carrick has opted for Leny Yoro, Harry Maguire and Lisandro Martinez during his initial two months in the dugout.

United’s summer strategy regarding the managerial situation remains uncertain at present. Despite the club currently in the frame for a Champions League berth, questions persist surrounding Carrick’s long-term credentials.

Looking ahead to this weekend’s crucial encounter with Aston Villa, Jamie Carragher argued that Unai Emery ought to be amongst the leading candidates for the position. “Unai Emery should be heading to Old Trafford this weekend as the frontrunner to become the next Manchester United manager,” he wrote in his Telegraph column.

“I suspect he does not rank high among the candidates. That is good news for Aston Villa, but it must be frustrating for one of the best, and still most underrated, coaches in Europe. For Emery not to be under serious consideration says plenty about modern football. By any metric, he would be the perfect coach to revive United. For me, only Pep Guardiola ranks higher of those currently managing in England.

Add the fact he is now proven in the Premier League, and such coaches are in short supply.”
