Missing girl, 11, last seen 6 years ago found 2,700 miles away from home | World | News


A young girl who went missing in 2020 has been found safe, a whopping 2,700 miles from home. Identified by Missing People in America, Karen Rojas disappeared from Duarte, about 20 miles east of Los Angeles, on July 1, 2020. Last Friday, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department received information that an 11-year-old could be in Washington County, North Carolina.

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office said their investigations revealed the child was enrolled in a local school “under an alias name”. It wrote on Facebook: “After working in combination with multiple agencies from NC to California, the child was taken into protective custody, and is SAFE!

“These are very rare occurrences to have such a positive outcome on such an old case as this, but it reminds us that through hard work, and dedication, and cooperation. Stories with positive outcomes like these can happen.”

No arrests have been made, and due to Karen’s age and ongoing investigations, authorities declined to provide any more information.

The Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department said it will continue to investigate alongside the Department of Family Services and authorities in North Carolina.

It said: “On Friday, March 6, Temple Station detectives received information suggesting the child might be in Washington County, North Carolina.

“Detectives contacted the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, which conducted a follow-up investigation within its jurisdiction and located the child enrolled at a local school. The child has been safely recovered and is now in protective custody.

“The investigation remains ongoing. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department continues to work with DCFS and authorities in North Carolina. Additional information will be released as it becomes available.”
