‘I’ve worked for US Presidents – it’s clear Starmer is officially dead | TV & Radio | Showbiz & TV

Former International Trade Adviser Steve Gill skewered Prime Minister Keir Starmer when he appeared on Jeremy Kyle‘s TalkTV programme this morning (Tuesday, March 3). Gill, who was an adviser to the Bill Clinton and George Bush administrations, was speaking live from Nashville, Tennessee, as he claimed the UK leader is “dead” to Donald Trump.

“I’m going to start off by saying I think Starmer is dead, certainly politically, and he is dead to Trump, I can guarantee you that,” Gill began. Kyle replied: “Really, well, this is really interesting. I am not surprised. People would say to me, ‘Oh, you make all of these excuses.’ “No I don’t, history will show us that your country has always been there…”

Gill’s remarks come after Trump told The Telegraph he is “very disappointed” in Starmer for blocking him from using the largest of the Chagos Islands to conduct strikes on Iran.

Trump said Starmer’s initial refusal to allow US forces to use the Chagos Islands base was unlike anything which had “happened between our countries before”. Starmer denied the USA permission to carry out strikes from bases such as Diego Garcia before relenting on Sunday evening.

However, Trump told The Telegraph the Prime Minister took “too long to change his mind”. He added: “That’s probably never happened between our countries before. It sounds like he was worried about the legality.”

It led Trump to withdraw his support for Starmer’s Chagos deal, which would have transferred ownership of the territory to Mauritius.

The President said: “All of a sudden [Mauritius] was claiming ownership. He should have fought it out and owned it or make him take it, if you want to know the truth. But no, we were very disappointed in Keir.”

On Monday, Starmer appeared to criticise Trump by telling Parliament any military action in the Middle East must be “thought through and lawful”.

TalkTV airs daily on YouTube and Freeview.
