All Freeview and Sky users lose more TV channels today as shutdown confirmed
Anyone who uses Freeview, Sky or Virgin Media to get their fix of TV will suddenly find they have fewer channels to tune into. From tomorrow, March 1, three popular services are shutting down for good and will no longer be available on the TV planner. The update will see content on That’s 80s, That’s Oldies, and That’s Melody disappearing.
These channels are all owned by the That’s TV brand, with the company confirming that shows on the dedicated music stations are being taken off air.
“This service closes 28 Feb. The music continues on The TV channels,” the firm said in an update.
A quick look at the planner for the upcoming week also shows things winding down with one message simply saying, “programmes no longer available.”
It’s another sad day for those who enjoy music on their TVs, with these channels falling out of favour with consumers. At the end of last year, MTV Music, MTV 80s, MTV 90s, Club MTV and MTV Live all stopped broadcasting.
MTV had been showing music for almost 40 years, but it seems the shift to streaming has meant fewer consumers were tuning in.
This latest update comes at a busy time for TV providers. A whole raft of changes have recently been announced, including new plans launching and channels being updated. Here’s a quick guide to what’s new.
• Sky has announced its new Ultimate TV plan. For just £24 per month, new and existing customers will soon get access to Disney+, Netflix, Hayu and the feature-packed HBO Max app, which is set to launch next month. Sky says the bundle represents strong value for money, with around £20 worth of streaming apps under one roof.
• Sky is shaking things up with the return of an iconic TV channel. Having been taken off air back in 2021, Sky One is back. It will arrive on screens from Tuesday, 24 February via channel 106, and offer shows such as The Dyers’ Caravan Park and Gemma Collins: Four Weddings and a Baby, as well as fan favourites such as Rob & Romesh Vs. Later this year, Sky One will also host Saturday Night Live UK. The relaunched channel replaces Sky Showcase and Sky Max on the planner.
• There’s good news for some Virgin Media users. From next month, those who subscribe to Sky Entertainment channels will get Sky Atlantic added for free. That means they’ll get access to shows such as Heated Rivalry, Under Salt Marsh, The Last Of Us and Amadeus. The update will be available to Virgin TV 360 and Stream box customers from April 1.
