Eagle-eyed gamers spot potential GTA 6 price leak on popular gaming si | Gaming | Entertainment

Grand Theft Auto 6 is set to be the biggest video game launch of this generation – but gamers have worried that such a huge game could also come with a pretty huge price attached, too.

Developer Rockstar Games has been hard at work on GTA 6 for the best part of a decade, with development costs estimated to be north of a billion dollars. Given the building hype around such a title, could Rockstar charge a premium over the £70 price tag gamers have become accustomed to?

Neither the developer and publisher of GTA 6, Take-Two, have confirmed an exact price for the game just yet. However, a listing for the Florida-based open-world sandbox appeared online over the weekend, and it seems to hint at some gamer’s worst fears.

Eagle-eyed shoppers who logged onto Loaded, formerly CDKeys, will have spotted two listings for GTA 6 appear on the site. One was for the Xbox Series X|S, the other for the PC.

The price tag of both listings jumped out immediately, with the Xbox game priced at £89.99. Meanwhile, the PC version was listed at a more reasonable £60.99.

These games weren’t available to purchase with the listings showing up as ‘Out of stock’, which likely suggests these pages were placeholder. At the time of writing, they’ve both since been removed from the site.

While the £89.99 might have put some gamers in a bit of a panic, there are enough discrepancies to suggest that those prices are inaccurate.

For one, Rockstar is yet to announce a version of Grand Theft Auto 6 for the PC platform just yet. When November rolls around, the game will only launch on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.

What’s more, it could well be that the Xbox version listed was for a premium edition of the game with additional cosmetic items or starter currency.

Nintendo already dipped its toe into the waters of increasing the price of its gamers with Mario Kart World last year. A physical copy of the racer cost gamers £74.99, although a digital version was available for a bit cheaper.

To re-iterate, Take-Two has not yet clarified what Grand Theft Auto 6 will cost at launch. It also recently promised that a physical edition of the game is still on the way, despite rumours that it could be going digital-only for the first few weeks of launch.
