Popular UK retailer plunging into administration – website closed down | UK | News

Online beauty retailer Beauty Bay is teetering on the edge of administration after submitting a notice of intention to appoint administrators.

This indicates a firm is gearing up to enter administration and grants a brief legal protection preventing creditors from pursuing legal proceedings for ten days.

Sky News reports that the notice was lodged on Tuesday this week. Beauty Bay has also shut down its website, displaying the following statement on its homepage: “We’ll Be Back Soon. BEAUTY BAY is offline right now. We’ll be back shortly.”

Beauty Bay was established in 1999 by brothers Arron and David Gabbie and operates from Manchester. It stocks over 200 brands through its platform, including Ariana Grande, Clinique and MAC, alongside its own product range.

This follows earlier reports suggesting Beauty Bay was examining possibilities to secure fresh investment, potentially including a complete sale of the enterprise.

Interpath, the advisory firm, was said to have been working with Beauty Bay to undertake a review of its business. Beauty Bay employs 65 people.

It comes after we reported that fashion retailer Quiz has collapsed into administration with 109 jobs lost. The job losses are affecting staff at its Glasgow head office and Lanarkshire warehouse.

The Quiz website has been taken down, and customers are being informed that any online orders yet to be dispatched will be cancelled.

Quiz is not processing refunds directly — instead, customers are being directed to contact their bank or credit card provider to reclaim their money. For purchases exceeding £100 made by credit card, shoppers may be entitled to claim under Section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act.

Those who paid by debit card for any amount, or by credit card for goods valued at £100 or less, could potentially use the Chargeback scheme, provided the purchase was made within the last 120 days.

As an alternative, Quiz is permitting customers to exchange unwanted items in store for goods of equivalent value.

Quiz branches remain open, with the retailer announcing clearance sales across all its locations. However, shoppers should note that gift cards are no longer being accepted.

Quiz operates 40 stores throughout the UK, along with concessions within New Look and Matalan outlets. Notably, Quiz concessions operating within UK New Look and Matalan stores are not affected by the administration process.
