Jurgen Klopp lands job after response to Man Utd and Chelsea ‘offers’ | Football | Sport

Legendary Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has landed himself a new job… at the Winter Olympics. The German left his post as Liverpool boss at the end of 2023/24 season, before taking up a role as the Red Bull Global Head of Soccer last year.

Despite taking a step back from the hectic world of management, Klopp has still been linked with a return to the club game. Real Madrid were mooted as a potential option following the sacking of Xabi Alonso, but Klopp appears to be content with his current position at Red Bull.

That’s according to his former agent, Marc Kosicke, who revealed United and Chelsea inquired about his services. The two clubs have vehemently denied such an approach, but alongside his Red Bull role, Klopp has landed a new job elsewhere.

That’s because he’ll be at the 2026 Winter Olympics to ring the bell for the final lap of the men’s biathlon relay. Klopp is said to be a big fan of the endurance event, having fallen in love with the sport while growing up in Germany’s Black Forest.

What’s more, Klopp is said to have idolised legendary biathlete, Ole Einar Bjorndalen, who won 14 Winter Olympics medals throughout his career. When quizzed on his favourite sports away from football, Klopp said: “I’m a fan of everything.

“I love all alpine skiing, I love all cross-country skiing disciplines, I love biathlon. It’s all just exciting. I understand some things better from watching them for years or from doing them myself. Other things I don’t understand at all.

“I have no idea how someone can bend down so low in curling, stay stable, and still push a kettle. I was even asked if I would like to ring the bell before the last lap. My first question was: What is that? We will be there; it’s my first live race.”

Klopp has previously filmed a documentary with Bjorndalen, with the football coach saying: “I don’t think Ole Einar has bigger admirers than me. In England they have no idea what biathlon is. They wondered who this Norwegian was, but when I heard it, I said: ‘Yes, I want to meet him. Where and when can I meet him?’

“He is actually on my bucket list. Now I can tick that box. It’s like meeting Muhammad Ali in boxing. Bjorndalen is biathlon. I try to explain it to the English. He is Franz Beckenbauer, Pele and Bobby Moore in one person.”
