Tottenham confirm huge injury blow as star set for long spell out | Football | Sport

Tottenham Hotspur have announced that Wilson Odobert has suffered a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament and will require surgery on the injury. Odobert was withdrawn with injury shortly after the half-hour mark in Tuesday’s defeat to Newcastle United.

The forward attempted to wrap his leg around Harvey Barnes to block the ball but twisted his left knee in the turf. Following treatment, Odobert departed the pitch and proceeded straight down the tunnel. The club have now confirmed he faces an extended spell on the sidelines.

Odobert’s injury compounds the extensive injury list at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, with ten players currently unavailable. James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski have both been long-term casualties for Spurs, whilst Mohammed Kudus and Rodrigo Bentancur are also sidelined.

Richarlison has been sidelined with a hamstring injury since January 10, while Ben Davies has been absent for the previous six matches. Lucas Bergvall and Pedro Porro were recently declared unfit, with Destiny Udogie joining them on the injury list last week due to a hamstring issue.

A club statement read: “We can confirm that Wilson Odobert has sustained a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee. The 21-year-old French forward suffered the injury during the first half of our Premier League fixture against Newcastle United on Tuesday.

“Wilson will see a specialist next week before undergoing surgery, and will then commence his rehabilitation with our medical staff.”
