Met Office names UK areas set for snow before Friday | Weather | News

A weather map shows which UK areas are expected to see snow soon. The Met Office forecast shows that plummeting temperatures could result in snowfall across parts of Scotland and northern England this Friday.

In recent weeks, UK households have seen various days of heavy rain, snowfall, winds and ice. While no weather warnings have been issued for Friday, February 13, the agency’s map shows white patches across Scotland and the north of England, indicating that snowfall is forecast for the day.

The snow can be seen covering areas in the days leading up to Friday. However, on Friday the map shows that the weather will impact areas as far north as Wick in the Scottish Highlands, down to Cumbria.

As the day goes on, the snowy conditions seem to shift southwards, hitting more regions, including Greater Manchester and Staffordshire, by the evening.

While many areas will see snow by Friday, it is not expected to be heavy, with the white and grey patches on the map indicating less than 4mm and between 0.5 and 4mm snow, respectively.

Rain is also expected alongside the snow, with showers scattered across the nation throughout the day.

According to the Met Office‘s long range weather forecast for February 13 to February 22, the unsettled conditions come as “cyclonic patterns are expected to dominate the UK”. The results of the systems are winds, rising air, and cloud-covered, stormy weather.

The Met Office stated: “The early part of this period could see colder conditions becoming established more widely for a time, bringing with it the likelihood of some snow, primarily to the north and northeast.

“However this should offer a few days respite from the wet weather across the south. By the end of this period, the track of Atlantic depressions may shift a little further north than during the last few weeks.”

Brits are urged to keep up with the local weather forecast, especially as weather warnings are currently in place. Doing so will ensure households are prepared and remain safe during harsh weather.
