Alyn Owen, who runs second-hand goods business LOOT with partner Daisy, said he was shocked after returning home and finding the road shut.

Speaking to WalesOnline, he said: “I found the road closed due to a large fire at the Old Greys Ford building in Pontllanfraith, Blackwood.

“Multiple fire engines were on site, and thick smoke was billowing from the top of the building.

“Over time, the building began collapsing, with the roof falling in.

“While the fire hadn’t spread directly, the family in the neighboring house decided to evacuate for safety.

“Many onlookers are gathered outside the cordon.

“This appears to be a major incident, starting centrally and spreading.

“Additionally, there’s a welding supply shop next door and a petrol station on the other side, both adding significant risk due to flammable materials.

“There’s a lot of anxiety in the local area right now.”
