Nestled within the sweeping moorland of the Forest of Bowland – designated an area of outstanding natural beauty (AONB) in 1964 – lies a captivating, lesser-known village that seems remarkably preserved through the ages.
Characterised by its striking stone buildings, this charming Lancashire village is considered the perfect retreat for anyone seeking to escape the frenetic pace of urban existence and temporarily step away from modern life.
Positioned at the heart of the Trough of Bowland, this picturesque hamlet offers practically no mobile signal, contributing to its ‘timeless’ character, yet makes up for its sparse connectivity with plentiful appeal, presenting visitors with a wealth of pursuits as they discover the locale.
The peaceful village of Slaidburn has plenty to provide and acts as a superb starting point for walkers and cyclists, owing to its closeness to the varied landscape and magnificent rural panoramas that encircle it, reports Lancs Live.

Among the principal draws in Slaidburn is the settlement’s Grade I Listed church positioned at its centre.
A functioning Anglican place of worship, St Andrew’s Church is fashioned from sandstone and traces its origins to the 15th century, rendering it a worthwhile afternoon stop for visitors, particularly those passionate about heritage.
Constructed in the Gothic architectural tradition, the church was established in 1450, though it experienced several modifications during the 18th Century. The eastern wall of the church underwent complete reconstruction in 1866.
This historic edifice, steeped in a rich past and heritage, boasts unique pews, an uncommon three-tier pulpit, and a striking chancel screen. It’s also noted for its ‘quantity of good early woodwork’.
Venturing outdoors, the churchyard houses a sandstone cross shaft of Grade II Listed status, likely dating back to the 16th century, adorned with intricate carvings on its upper portion.
The churchyard is also the final resting place of a soldier from the Duke of Wellington’s Regiment who fell during the First World War.
