Stay in Wuthering Heights-inspired Airbnb and sleep like Jacob Elordi | UK | Travel

Tucked away in the West Yorkshire countryside, merely a stone’s throw from the backdrop of Emily Brontë’s Wuthering Heights and the thriving town of Halifax, lies the magnificent Holdsworth House.
Recently occupied by cinema stars Jacob Elordi and Margot Robbie, who are set to portray Heathcliff and Cathy in Emerald Fennell’s eagerly anticipated Wuthering Heights adaptation, Holdsworth House whisks you away to an era of exceptional elegance.
Welcoming log fires and low, shadowy beams feature throughout a building which traces its origins to the 13th century, when it served as a modest cluster of barns. Today, it stands as an exquisite accommodation, providing exceptional cuisine, beverages, and first-rate hospitality.
Holdsworth House served as a residence for the cast and crew of the upcoming production, providing refuge from the harsh moorland winds whilst they readied themselves to adapt Brontë’s masterpiece for cinema.
As someone who has adored Wuthering Heights since initially discovering it aged 14, I seized the opportunity to experience Holdsworth House when Airbnb and Warner Bros extended their invitation. The instant I first turned those pages decades ago, I found myself swept away to Brontë’s cherished, untamed, and blustery moors.

Since then, I have established the region as my residence and frequently embark on nearby rambles, pondering whether I am treading the very same routes as Cathy and Heathcliff in Brontë’s timeless tale. Upon my arrival, I was welcomed with beaming faces and assistance from personnel who escorted me to my luxurious accommodation.
Bathed in sunlight, with a vista of a hillside and a bare tree that wouldn’t seem amiss at Wuthering Heights, I unwound before being guided down to a charming afternoon tea, accompanied by prosecco (or a non-alcoholic beverage if preferred).
Newly-baked scones and delicate, yet flavoursome pastries graced a table and served as accompaniment before the principal attraction: an opportunity to witness a recreation of Cathy’s chamber from the estate. Satisfied with cake, I strolled across the grounds of Holdsworth House to a barn, covered my footwear with plastic coverings, and stepped inside.
I was met by a shadowy, velvet crimson space. Echoing the colour palette Fennell seems to have selected for the eagerly awaited picture.
Two entrances were revealed, displaying Cathy’s quarters as they would have appeared at Thrushcross Grange. I felt as though I had been whisked away into one of literature’s most legendary bedchambers.
At first sight, nothing appears unusual. Yet upon closer inspection, you’ll discover something rather more sinister at play.
The luxurious pink walls feature pale blue streaks cascading downwards, creating the illusion that you’re encased within veins flowing towards a pulsating heart. Another stunning touch manifests through the three possible names of our protagonist – Catherine Earnshaw, Catherine Linton and Catherine Heathcliff – etched yearningly upon the window pane.
I found myself aching alongside poor Cathy as twilight descended over the rural landscape beyond.

If you’re a Wuthering Heights head like me, then you’re in luck. Cathy’s room has been listed on Airbnb for couples. However, stays are very limited. Requests to book can be made from 12pm on February 20. Three lucky winners will be chosen to live their own Wuthering Heights dream. But fear not. If your name isn’t picked out of the hat, you can still stay at Holdsworth House – just in one of the slightly more normal rooms.
Following sufficient time embodying Cathy, we returned to the principal residence, where a vibrant banquet awaited us, plucked directly from the motion picture. Subsequently came an exploration of the quarters where Mr Elordi, otherwise known as Heathcliff, resided.
An opulent, sage-coloured settee positioned before an expansive bed adorned with crimson and rose cushions – yet another tribute to the film.

Delicious food was on offer at The Hawthorn in Haworth (Image: undefined)

Whilst the professional team members stayed predominantly reserved, I’m delighted to confirm that the celebrities proved exceptionally amiable throughout their visit. No Wuthering Heights-inspired excursion would be complete without visiting Haworth.
Having never explored the charming village after dark, I was keen to discover how the typically busy Main Street appeared at night. I’m pleased to confirm it’s just as delightful when dusk falls.
The village’s principal attraction during evening hours is The Hawthorn – a beloved local pub, rich in heritage. The welcoming establishment is rather like a tardis, proving considerably more spacious inside than its exterior suggests.
I selected an Amaretto Sour before ordering a sirloin steak, mashed potatoes and peppercorn sauce, accompanied by a glass of white wine. Warmed by comforting log fires, one could easily lose track of time and remain at The Hawthorn throughout the evening.
However, the inviting bed at Holdsworth House was beckoning.
Tea beside the fireplace followed next, whilst we listened to tales of The Beatles’ visit in 1964. They were swiftly succeeded by celebrities including Cliff Richard, Florence and the Machine and James Norton.

Bedtime arrived then, offering an opportunity to reflect upon the day’s adventures. As I drifted into slumber, I soon found myself dreaming of the brooding moorland and a spectral female figure tapping at the window.
