Offices belonging to Elon Musk’s social media platform X in France are being raided, the Paris prosecutor’s office has said. In a statement on X, it said its cybercrime unit is conducting the searches. Europol is assisting.

The Paris prosecutor’s office added that the raids on the offices are in connection with an investigation that was launched in January 2025 following complaints about X’s algorithm and the content it recommended. Both Mr Musk and X’s chief executive officer, Linda Yaccarino, have been summoned to appear at hearings in April as part of the probe, according to the prosecutor’s office. The Daily Express has approached X for comment.

In its new statement, the prosecutor’s office said the raids on offices in France were part of efforts to ensure X complied with the country’s laws.

The statement on X reads: “A search is being carried out at the French premises of X by the cybercrime unit of the Paris public prosecutor’s office, together with @CyberGEND and @Europol, as part of the investigation opened in January 2025.

“The Paris public prosecutor’s office is leaving X. Find us on Lkd and Insta.”

The probe, which is being led by French cybercrime officers, was expanded last July after reports of sexually explicit deepfakes and holocaust denial content circulating on X.

Previously, X posted on the social media platform, describing the probe’s expansion as “politically-motivated”. It also strenuously denied any allegations that it had manipulated its algorithm.
