Argos just cut the latest AirPods down to £99
The AirPods 4 were released on September 20, 2024, and are Apple’s entry-level AirPods model currently. The firm also sells the AirPods 4 with Active Noise Cancellation, which block out some of the noise around you, and the AirPods Pro 3, which have an in-ear design with Apple’s best noise cancellation and many more smart features.
But if you have an iPhone and all you want is a solid pair of very easy to use headphones for music, podcasts, phone calls and video calls, you could do much worse than the AirPods 4 for £99.
If you have an iPad or a Mac, the AirPods will also automatically move between the devices depending on which one is in front of you and playing audio, which is very useful.
And even if you have an Android phone and a Windows PC and don’t use any Apple products, the AirPods 4 are still a good choice. They have the fewest smart features, features you would lose on more expensive AirPods models but not using them with Apple devices, so the £99 AirPods 4 actually make sense as a straightforward connect-and-use true wireless earbud no matter what phone or computer you want to use them with.
I’ve tested the AirPods 4 and their ANC counterparts, and will admit they are very handy as part of the Apple ecosystem. It was a bit of a eureka moment when I wanted to watch our living room TV without disturbing my wife in the next room and realised I could quickly and easily connect the AirPods to my Apple TV box without faffing about with Bluetooth settings.
That’s because when used with Apple devices, the AirPods are associated with your iCloud account, making connections between your devices a doddle.
The AirPods come with a very compact charging case, which you can recharge using USB-C. Apple claims the buds get five hours of listening time on a charge, and you’ll get up to 30 hours overall from a fully charged case and buds.
With IP54 water resistance the AirPods will also survive a rain shower and the sweat from your workouts, plus they have ‘Hey Siri’ recognition to quickly chat to your iPhone’s voice assistant.
You’ll get superior audio quality form AirPods Pro 3, but if you want AirPods that sit in your ear rather than block out all sound for taking phone calls and listening to various audio streams, you can’t go wrong with the AirPods 4 at £99.
If you prefer to shop somewhere other than Argos, the AirPods 4 are also £99 from Amazon at the time of writing.
