The beginning of the year is a time when many of us enjoy making holiday plans, and with the plummeting temperatures, it makes sense that we are already looking forward to sunny days. That being said, not everyone can jet off as much as they’d like, but fortunately, there are still many spots right in the UK that make great getaways.
The nation is home to plenty of beautiful coastal spots, some of which are renowned resorts, and others which remain under the radar. And there’s one charming little town that offers tranquillity and relaxation, making it worth visiting.

Borth is a picturesque area in Mid Wales that has become popular for one thing in particular. It’s a three-mile-long beach. Those who have visited have had endless good things to say about the sandy spot, which is perfect for people of all ages.
The beach is a popular spot for a wide range of water sports and activities, including swimming, surfing, fishing, sailing, and windsurfing. The shallow waters make it a perfect spot for families with young children to safely enjoy, and those with dogs can also make the most of enjoying a beautiful stroll in the sands, as the beach is also dog-friendly.
The town’s pretty landscape extends beyond the beach, as Borth is positioned close to several protected sites, including the Dyfi National Nature Reserve at Ynyslas. Between the two spots you can find an incredible sunken forest that dates back 4,000 to 5,000 years.
The enchanting sites has been is connected to the legend of Cantre’r Gwaelod also dubbed the Welsh Atlantis.
One person on TripAdvisor wrote: “This is my happy place, been coming for many years and it never fails me. Space, peaceful, great views, lovely sea and estuary and freedom for the dogs to run and play. Really interesting nature reserve.”

Another said: “We visited as a group of 6. We had two cars, one parked for free with a blue disabled badge, the other car cost £4. You can park directly on the sand. We walked around the site through the sand dunes and up the estuary. Beautiful scenery. Our dog loved the beach and water.
“Followed the walk with a deserved sit down and coffee at the visitor centre. Would recommend to all, especially if you have a dog who loves to run and swim.”
A third who visited in January noted that the beautiful beach, “perfect for dog walking”, is quite busy at this time of year, with locals sharing how busy it can get during the summer.
Borth town also has a range of shops, cafes, restaurants, and pubs, making it a one-stop shop for the perfect staycation this year.
