Boxing enthusiasts are in for a thrilling evening, with three major events lined up. In Newcastle, Britain’s own Josh Kelly will be vying for a world title for the first time, facing off against the undefeated powerhouse Bakhram Murtazaliev. The former Olympian has been on a winning streak since his surprising defeat to David Avanesyan in 2021.
With seven consecutive victories under his belt, Kelly is hoping to realise his dream on home turf. Meanwhile, boxing returns to the BBC with Ben Shalom’s BOXXER staging its second card on the national broadcaster, following a successful debut in November. Headlining the event is rising star Fran Hennessy, who aims to maintain her unbeaten record against Ellie Bouttell.
The two will compete for the vacant WBC Silver women’s bantamweight title. Over in New York, a highly anticipated title fight is set to take place. Three-weight world champion Shakur Stevenson moves up to super-lightweight to challenge Teofimo Lopez for his WBO title.
