Jadon Sancho transfer value plummets to new low as Man Utd option looms | Football | Sport
Jadon Sancho’s transfer market value has seemingly plummeted once more after the winger’s latest loan move away from Manchester United. Sancho moved to Aston Villa last summer on a loan deal running until the end of the season, having previously spent time on loan at Chelsea.
The forward had expressed his wish to depart Old Trafford in the summer after Chelsea opted against activating their £25million obligation to buy that was part of his loan agreement from United. What ensued was a switch to Villa – lasting until the end of the campaign – at which point Sancho’s United contract is due to expire.
United retain an option to extend Sancho’s agreement by an additional 12 months if they so choose, though whether such an extension materialises before the term concludes remains uncertain. Sancho has featured 20 times for Villa this season, netting just once in the Europa League.
During his Villa stint, Sancho’s market valuation has dropped further still. Transfermarkt now values the United loanee at £17million (€20million), marking his lowest worth since the summer of 2018 during his first spell at former club Borussia Dortmund.
Sancho’s market value has plummeted dramatically over recent years, having peaked at £113million (€130million) back in 2020. The 25-year-old was valued at £78million (€90million) when he joined United in 2021.
It remains unclear what lies ahead for Sancho following his loan stint at Villa and whether United will activate the option for an additional year on the winger’s contract, which would protect his value. Sancho appeared to take a subtle dig at United after netting the decisive goal in Villa’s 1-0 triumph over Fenerbahce in the Europa League last week.
“It’s nice to have a manager who backs you and obviously believes in you,” Sancho said. “Again, every opportunity I get, I’m going to try and do 100 per cent, and hopefully I can deliver more goals.”
Sancho arrived at United and began working alongside the club’s former boss Erik ten Hag. The duo had fell out at the beginning of the 2023/2024 campaign – which ultimately resulted in the winger being sent out on loan to Dortmund for the latter half of that season.
United sent Sancho on loan to Chelsea at the beginning of last season, whilst Ten Hag remained at the helm, and subsequently arranged another temporary move last summer to Villa under then-head coach Ruben Amorim.
