Man Utd next manager update as Luis Enrique truth cleared | Football | Sport
Enrique took charge of the Ligue 1 titans in July 2023 following his stint with the Spain national team. His trophy haul includes two league titles in France, two Coupe de France victories, and a Champions League win – the club’s first ever.
His existing contract was set to run out in 2027, and there were whispers he might be looking for a new challenge this summer. However, The i Paper reports that Enrique remains content in Paris and feels he has more to achieve with the club.
Despite this, the same report suggests that leaving Selhurst Park hasn’t boosted his chances of landing the United job. A streak of nine matches without a victory in all competitions for Palace has seen his reputation take a hit.
Roberto De Zerbi and Thomas Tuchel are said to be leading the race for the position instead. De Zerbi made his mark during his stint at Brighton before his switch to Marseille.
Tuchel’s deal with England concludes following the World Cup and United have previously considered him for managerial roles. The German boss steered Chelsea to Champions League success and achieved notable triumphs at PSG and Bayern Munich.
Michael Carrick will take charge of United for the rest of the campaign. His appointment has generated considerable discussion, particularly given the former United midfielder’s departure from Middlesbrough in June.
However, despite external commentary, Carrick has insisted that remarks from ex-players aren’t intensifying the scrutiny. “They’re not putting more pressure on me,” Carrick said.
“I don’t feel that. There are plenty of opinions around, some positive, some not too much. It’s totally irrelevant in terms of what I focus on.
“There’s a lot that can be said, it’s the way of the world. I’m not going to pay too much attention to that. For me, the players and staff, we focus on how we’re going to succeed.”
