It has a respectable 72% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes, but many fans say it should be much higher.

The show in question is Fool Me Once. Released in 2024, the British thriller series was produced by Quay Street Productions for Netflix and adapted by Danny Brocklehurst from Coben’s 2016 novel.

It stars Michelle Keegan as Maya Stern, alongside Adeel Akhtar, Dino Fetscher, Richard Armitage and Joanna Lumley. All eight episodes were released at once on  January 1, 2024.

The plot follows Maya, a former military pilot who is grieving the murder of her husband.

After installing a nanny cam at home, she is shocked when she sees him appear on the footage despite being believed dead.

The story focuses on lies, cover-ups and the danger that surrounds those trying to uncover the truth.

Viewers have been full of praise for the series. One person said: “One of the very few series lately that I binge-watched.

“I’d go as far as to call it a masterpiece. It’s a gripping series that masterfully weaves an intricate tapestry of mystery and suspense, leaving viewers on the edge of their seats from start to finish.”

Another added: “One of the best Netflix mystery-thriller series ever made. How can it not be when it’s based on Harlan Coben’s greatest book. I’ve read the book twice now and rewatched the show again.

“Both are just incredibly gripping and breathtaking at times. The twists and turns are insane.”

A third wrote: “Excellent show, full of suspense, twists and turns. Grabbed my attention from the beginning and finished it in one day. I loved every minute of this show.”

The series has also been a huge hit with Netflix viewers worldwide. Within its first week, it was watched by more than 37.1 million accounts and logged over 238 million hours viewed, making it one of Netflix’s biggest openings.
